A rare set of six French silver toasting goblets dating to the early nineteenth century, beautifully proportioned and reassuringly weighty in the hand. Through our research, the design has been attributed to Jacques Grégoire Rousseau, with each piece bearing the rustic coq hallmark used in Paris between 1809 and 1819.
Delicately engraved with a trailing cherry motif, the goblets strike a balance between refinement and warmth. They were made for moments of celebration, yet possess the understated elegance that allows them to feel equally at home on a thoughtfully laid table today.
We have chosen to leave the silver in its softly tarnished state, preserving the patina acquired over more than two centuries. Those who prefer a brighter finish will find they polish beautifully, revealing the luminous character of the silver beneath.
